Building Public Confidence in the Justice System (2000)

Completed 2002
Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)

This project involved developing a seminar and a series of workshops for justice system personnel and related NGO's on how to develop and implement a public consultation on law and systemic reform, the role of Public Legal Education and the role of government communication strategies in ensuring that the public was aware of proposed legislative changes and how to have input.

The goal was to promote understanding of the different roles of consultation, public education and government communication strategies in identifying and undertaking major law reform in criminal, family and civil law areas and to assist justice system personnel to work on specific initiatives of reform in such a way as to build public confidence in the process of justice system reform  A training manual for government employees and civil society organizations was developed in the course of the project.
